Common Spiders in Northeastern Nevada
From garden web builders to spiders hiding around garages and foundations, northeastern Nevada is home to a variety of spiders. Here are a few you may come across around your property.
Black Widow
Black widows often build messy webs in sheltered places such as garages, sheds, window wells, and around outdoor equipment. Give them space and avoid reaching into areas you cannot see.
Wolf Spider
Wolf spiders are active hunters that may wander indoors while looking for prey or shelter. Their size and quick movements can be surprising, but they generally prefer to avoid people.
Cat-Faced Orb-Weaver
These outdoor spiders build large, round webs near gardens, porches, and exterior lights. They help catch flying insects and are generally not considered dangerous to people.
Hobo Spider
Hobo spiders are funnel weavers that can be found around foundations, ground-level openings, and other sheltered areas. They sometimes wander indoors, especially in late summer and fall.
One more fun fact: Scorpions are arachnids too! Like spiders, they have eight legs, but they belong to a different group.
